Weekend Independent Childbirth Class


When: Saturday, June 6 and Sunday, June 7, 2015 from 9am-4pm each day

About the Class


The class will be taught by two local independent childbirth educators, and will cover:

- Preparing your body, mind and spirit for childbirth
- Birth planning
- Choosing a care provider and birth place
- Labor stages
- Labor coping skills and comfort techniques
- Medical interventions and decision-making
- Advice for partners
- Relationship-strengthening and maintaining your bond as a couple
- Newborn care and breastfeeding
- Postpartum recovery and life with baby


Starting time: We will start promptly at 9 am. Please arrive 10-15 minutes early.

Lunch: We will take a lunch break at 12 noon. Please bring a packed lunch, or money to purchase lunch from a nearby cafe or restaurant (there are several within walking distance.)

Snacks: There will be light refreshments available for snacking throughout the day. 

Sunday: Please bring a stuffed animal to class with you to practice breastfeeding techniques. Also, if you have a baby carrier (sling, wrap, or structured carrier) please bring that with you to practice babywearing!

About the Instructors


Marcy Ganoe is a student midwife, birth doula, placenta encapsulator, prenatal yoga teacher, and independent childbirth educator. She has been studying midwifery and nursing since 2009, and began working directly with families as a birth doula in 2013. Marcy is also a budding herbalist/aromatherapist, and enjoys making all-natural body and bath products. Visit Marcy's website at:


Sara Elia is a birth doula, certified lactation counselor, health educator, and independent childbirth educator. She previously taught childbirth classes at Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia. Since January 2015, she has been self-employed as a full-time birth doula.
